There’s a reason it’s called the Mega Pokemon Center. If there’s ever a one-stop shop for Pokemon stuff, this is it. When it opened early this month, the world’s largest Pokemon Center was swamped with fans eager to get their hands on the plush Pikachu cosplaying as Charizard, an exclusive to commemorate the launch in Sunshine City mall Ikebukuro.
Much to the dismay of the hundreds of fans waiting in line, some early opportunists snapped up almost all of them – spending millions of Yen – to put the plushies up on online auction sites like Yahoo and eBay for ridiculous prices. It caused quite a stir in the Japanese Twittersphere, but the jokes on the scalpers – they’ve been restocked with plenty to spare. Justice!
At the entrance you’re greeted by a giant Pokeball which you totally have to take a picture with, naturally. Once inside you’ll find practically everything Pokemon, from Pokemon toys, Pokemon gifts, Pokemon games to cute Pokemon socks. You’re probably going to need a very deep wallet to catch ’em all.
Some of the highlights are the life-size statues of Charizard, Pikachu and Mewtwo. They’re incredibly detailed and probably as close as you’re going to get to a real Pokemon.
Needless to say, if you’re a Pokemon fan, this is one of your must-visit Tokyo attractions.
