minced meat with eggplant and tomato cream

I don’t know about you, but any dish with the words “potato” and “cream” HAS to be delicious. I mean, it’s hard to mess that combo up even if you tried. This tiny shop in the posh Tokyo residential township of Jiyugaoka is famous for taking the humble mashed potato and elevating it with a gourmet twist.

Choose from 5 different flavors and the occasional seasonal special, and top it up with a coffee and baguette (which we highly recommend – yum.) The best-sellers are the minced meat tomato and chicken gorgonzola, which we tried with the baguette. The mashed potatoes were silky smooth, creamy and flavorful, much better than I expected! Both flavors were scrumptious, but if I had to choose just one, I’d go with the chicken gorgonzola and it’s rich cheesy goodness.

The only downside to this place is that, like most things gourmet, the portions are on the small side. Perfect if you’re watching your calories or are looking for a tiny but satisfying snack, bad if you’re a hungry dude expecting a full meal. Head there early to avoid disappointment – they close when they sell out. They do both eat-in and takeout, but seating is very limited.

WOW

“It’s worth taking the short train ride here from Shibuya to try, because there are lots of cool shops in the area to explore after you’ve got your yummy mashed potato fix.”
